Tifway 419 Bermuda produces a vigorous lawn with a beautiful dark green blade that retains color under heat and draught stress. For more than 60 years, Tifway has been the traditional standard for golf fairways, tee boxes, sports fields, and lawns. Its high turf density and strength allow it to recover quickly from traffic and wear under proper maintenance and management. This turfgrass performs best with 8 to 10 hours of full sunlight.
RESILIENCE
Tifway 419 Bermuda lawns are drought-tolerant and withstand drought by going into dormancy until sufficient rainfall or irrigation resumes.
Tifway 419 Bermuda turfgrass is more weed resistant than most bermudagrasses by exhibiting dense growth and when properly maintained, competes with the presence of many turf weeds.
With proper maintenance, Tifway 419 Bermuda turfgrass is a highly disease-resistant selection and demonstrates tolerance to or quick recovery from pest damage. It is a prime pick for coastal areas, tolerating both relatively high soil and water salt concentrations.
CULTIVATION
Tifway 419 is only reproduced vegetatively meaning it is propagated only via certified sprigs or sod; it is not available as seed.
DEVELOPMENT
Tifway 419 was developed by the University of Georgia’s plant breeder and geneticist Dr. Glenn Burton and released in 1960. It was selected and tested cooperatively by the University of Georgia, U.S. Department of Agriculture and both the U.S. and Southern Golf Associations.
Tifway 419 Bermudagrass is suitable for both residential and commercial sites, sports fields and golf course roughs and fairways.
BENEFITS
BEAUTIFUL
Fine leaf texture,
very dense

Thrives in a wide range of soil
conditions; great erosion protection
VEGETATIVE
Self-reparation for
trouble or thin spots
FULL SUN
Performs best in full sun;
highly drought tolerant
SALT
In salty environments, simply
remove clippings to ensure salt
will not distribute back into soil
LOW MAINTENANCE
Easily established, moderate
mowing, low irrigation and
fertilizer requirements
DORMANCY
Dormancy ensues after
first frost; may overseed in early
fall with perennial rye
